In an era where artificial intelligence promises to replicate our every cognitive function, it is provocative yet essential to discuss “real intelligence”: that which is born from sensitivity, imagination, empathy, and the capacity for emotion. “It is what truly makes us human,” states Artistic Director Maurizio Nichetti, previewing the themes of the 11th Visioni dal Mondo (Visions from the World) International Documentary Festival.
The festival, conceived and directed by Francesco Bizzarri, returns to Milan from September 11th to 14th, 2025. Its theme, ‘Un passo in più’ (A Step Further), is an invitation to overcome indifference and assume the responsibility of a new, critical, and conscious perspective.
“2025 marks eleven years of Visioni dal Mondo’s commitment to promoting documentary cinema as an art form, a civic act, and a tool for knowledge,” emphasized Bizzarri. “The festival confirms its status as a privileged space to give a voice to reality, a meeting point for directors, producers, distributors, audiences, and audiovisual industry professionals.”
Nichetti added, “Visioni dal Mondo is a moment of reflection and discussion on cinema of the real as a living, necessary language, capable of authentically narrating the present. The festival is an observatory on reality, a place where invisible stories find a voice and form, far from simplification and the frenzy of daily news. This year’s theme is an invitation to push further, to look deeper, and not to succumb to superficiality.”
Over the four days, the festival will host national and international premieres, meetings, and roundtables across several venues: the Teatro Litta, the Cineteca Milano Arlecchino, the Museo Nazionale Scienza e Tecnologia (National Museum of Science and Technology), and via the web rooms of the Italian platform MYmovies.
