Following the resignation of members from Milan’s municipal Landscape Commission, hundreds of urban planning applications have been transferred to the Landscape Commission of the Metropolitan City. According to Alessandro Sorte, the regional coordinator of Forza Italia, this is “yet another stopgap solution, and an inadequate one at that, which not only represents the image of a city paralyzed for over a year but risks generating even more chaos.”
Sorte argues that this move “will overload an office that, as everyone knows, lacks an adequate structure.” He added, “Furthermore, anyone who receives a negative or conditional opinion from the Metropolitan City’s commission could appeal, given that those applications were submitted to the Municipality of Milan and not elsewhere.” He explained that while the Metropolitan City’s Landscape Commission has a consultative role and does not issue permits, “a negative opinion would risk influencing the final decision of the managers, inevitably leading to a flood of appeals and further paralysis.”
“The Municipality of Milan will appoint its new commission in a few days, with candidate selection currently underway,” Sorte noted, concluding, “Milan deserves more than improvised management and temporary solutions that only fuel confusion. A decisive change of pace is needed, in the interest of the citizens and the entire country.”
