** Technical consultants Giancarlo Rosa and engineer Marco Antonio Pes have been appointed to conduct crucial, one-time examinations of the BMW SUV and mobile phone belonging to Vivian Spohr. Spohr, the German manager and wife of Lufthansa CEO Carsten Spohr, struck and killed 24-year-old Gaia Costa from Tempio Pausania on a pedestrian crossing in Via Aga Khan, Porto Cervo, on the morning of July 8th.
The Tempio Pausania Prosecutor’s Office mandated the consultants to analyze data extracted from Spohr’s phone and vehicle, both seized immediately after the incident. Spohr is under investigation for vehicular homicide. Rosa and Pes will also review all documents from the prosecutor’s file, including technical reports from the Porto Cervo Carabinieri station and footage from the Emerald Coast resort area’s surveillance system. The examinations are expected to conclude within twenty days and could clarify the fatal crash’s dynamics and causes. Preliminary reconstructions indicate Costa, a Porto Cervo babysitter, was hit while crossing the pedestrian crossing around 1:00 PM.
Vivian Spohr, vacationing in Costa Smeralda with her family, left the island and returned to Germany shortly after the incident. Investigators confirmed no grounds existed to detain her, citing negative toxicology and alcohol tests and her cooperation. While formally investigated for unaggravated vehicular homicide, she was permitted to return home.
Both Spohr’s defense lawyers, Angelo Merlini and Alessandro Vitale, and the victim’s family’s lawyer, Antonello Desini, have appointed their own technical consultants.
