An 80-year-old man has been arrested for attempted murder after stabbing his 72-year-old wife inside their home in Trieste’s upper city district. The woman sustained non-life-threatening injuries during the attack and ensuing struggle. She managed to break free and reach safety with neighbors, who alerted authorities.
Police officers responded promptly and apprehended the elderly man. Upon their arrival, however, the man used the same knife to inflict injuries upon himself.
Both the husband and wife were transported to Cattinara Hospital. Medical examinations confirmed both individuals suffered minor wounds, according to local media reports. The suspect remains in custody.
