Thousands of young pilgrims converged on Rome’s Circus Maximus this morning for their Jubilee celebration, a day intensely focused on the sacrament of confession. The gathering sets the stage for tomorrow evening’s highly anticipated vigil with Pope Leone at Tor Vergata—echoing the historic 2000 Jubilee meeting with St. John Paul II.
Over 1,000 priests speaking nine languages are available to pilgrims from 146 nations for confession. Parallel events emphasizing hope unfold across the capital’s churches, parishes, and institutions, featuring interfaith dialogues and fellowship activities.
Organizers installed 200 confessionals at Circus Maximus, though many confessions also occur outdoors. Despite its penitential focus, the atmosphere remains festive. Youths sporting green bandanas on heads or necks rally around themes of peace, dialogue, and brotherhood, transforming the ancient arena into a kaleidoscope of faith and unity.
