Work continues uninterrupted on the construction of new sidewalks along Via Aurelia Antica, near the entrance to Villa Doria Pamphilj, between Via Leone XIII and number 162. The project, managed by Rome City Council’s Public Works Department, forms part of the Jubilee contract for extraordinary maintenance of sidewalks in the Historic City, representing an investment of approximately €930,000, the Campidoglio announced.
Initiated on July 16th, the construction site has operated continuously. Tomorrow, August 14th, the section between Via Leone XIII and Via di Villa Betania will reopen; it had been closed since August 4th to allow for sewer and sidewalk reconstruction. Work to replace the final 80 meters of curb, from the religious complex to the nursery, will commence on August 27th-28th. Original project work on the sidewalk itself, from the first entrance of Villa Pamphilj to Porta San Pancrazio, resumes on September 1st.
As per prior agreements, the site will be suspended for approximately ten days starting August 18th due to the summer closure of concrete, asphalt, and supply production plants. Work will resume at full capacity afterwards.
“Intervention on Via Aurelia Antica,” stressed Public Works Councillor Ornella Segnalini, “is strategic for the safety and accessibility of one of Villa Doria Pamphilj’s main entrances. Work is proceeding as scheduled, and the planned milestones will be met. We will deliver a new sidewalk for the safe movement of park visitors and an orderly, welcoming public space for residents and tourists.”
Traffic restrictions remain in effect: a one-way system (towards the city center) operates on the stretch from Via di Villa Betania to Via delle Fornaci. Additionally, buses and trucks up to 3.5 tonnes are prohibited from transiting the intersection with Via Aurelia Antica; vehicles arriving from Piazzale Aurelio must turn left onto Via di San Pancrazio.
