Daniele Nahum, a Milan city councilor for the Azione party and a prominent member of the Jewish community, has formally reported antisemitic threats to Milan police headquarters. Nahum had previously announced his intention to do so on social media.
The complaint follows a recent social media post by Nahum showing an explicit insult directed at him, which stated: “At least in Auschwitz you had a place to work, eat, and sleep.”
“The time when Jews ended up in concentration camps is over,” Nahum stated on social media after filing the report. “I won’t let another one pass. I am now pursuing legal avenues to ensure these individuals face consequences, including financial penalties.”
Nahum contends that antisemitism “has exploded in this city” following the conflict in the Middle East. “The line is being blurred,” he asserted. “Legitimate criticism of the Israeli government is one thing – and I am the first to criticize it, as I advocate for an immediate ceasefire – but targeting Italian citizens of the Jewish faith is entirely another. This must stop.”
The councilor further highlighted ongoing violence, stating, “For the past two months, there have been two assaults per day in the Jewish quarter. This is not normal. I will file every possible report.”
