Government sources confirmed to ANSA that centers established by Italy in Albania will “continue operating as CPRs (Repatriation Centers), as they have for several months.” This statement follows the European Court of Justice’s ruling on procedures regarding safe countries. Since last April, a Repatriation Center in Gjader has housed migrants transferred from Italian CPRs. Initially, the facility processed asylum seekers under an accelerated border procedure applicable to those arriving from nations designated as safe—a classification directly addressed by the EU court’s recent decision.
