Marmolada’s peak is cloaked in fresh snow following an August snowfall that began this morning at -2°C and continues. Webcams from ‘dolomitesmeteo.it’ show Punta Penia’s landscape appearing more wintry than summery, though summer snow is more typical at this altitude than the recent highs above 10°C.
“We’re seeing the tail end of the worsening conditions forecast days ago. Heavy rain on the plains, large hail in some areas, and even waterspouts in the upper Adriatic – all within a decidedly cool context for the season,” explained Flavio Tolin, owner of the webcam capturing the images.
Snow is also falling above 2,500 metres at other Dolomite stations. ‘Dolomitesmeteo.it’ reports white flakes descending on Piz Boè and the Rifugio Puez area in Alto Adige. Thunderstorms and intense rain, which have battered the Veneto region since yesterday, persisted in valley bottoms and plains through the morning.
