Twelve new West Nile virus infections have been confirmed in Italy’s Lazio region, according to analyses performed by the “Lazzaro Spallanzani” National Institute for Infectious Diseases’ virology laboratory. Nine of the new cases presented with fever symptoms, while three involved neurological syndrome.
The latest cases were detected within the province of Latina, specifically in the towns of Aprilia, Cisterna di Latina, Latina, Pontinia, Sezze, and Sonnino. These new diagnoses bring the total number of confirmed West Nile Virus infections in the region for 2025 to 73.
Breakdown by health district shows 69 cases monitored by the Latina Local Health Authority (ASL), two by ASL Roma 6, and one by the Frosinone ASL. One additional case was recorded outside Lazio, in the province of Caserta.
Of the total 73 confirmed cases: 19 patients are currently hospitalized in regular wards; 6 have been discharged; 41 are receiving care at home; 4 are in intensive care units; and 3 deaths have been reported.
