Fuel prices across Italian service stations continue declining, mirroring downturns in international commodity and refined product markets. According to the latest data from the Fuel Price Observatory of Italy’s Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy (Mimit), new decreases were recorded even during the mid-August holiday week. Current prices show petrol at €1.71 per liter (down 0.3 cents since August 8) and diesel at €1.64 per liter (down 0.5 cents).
Mid-August pump prices have reached their lowest levels since 2021—prior to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Petrol now costs 11.6 cents per liter less than a year ago, 23.3 cents less than two years ago, and 5.4 cents less than three years ago. Diesel shows reductions of 6.2 cents, 19.9 cents, and 10.9 cents respectively for the same periods, Mimit reports.
This downward trend has persisted since January, interrupted only by a temporary increase from June 12-25 due to Middle East conflict. The Ministry noted that on January 23, petrol stood at €1.83 per liter (12 cents higher than today) and diesel at €1.74 per liter (10 cents higher).
