A five-year-old boy is hospitalized in serious condition at Padua Hospital after being extracted by firefighters from a car that plunged into the River Sile in Jesolo (Venice). His parents escaped unharmed.
The incident occurred along Via Piave in Jesolo town during the early afternoon. The car reportedly entered the river after the driver lost control. The parents managed to escape and call for help, while their young son remained trapped, secured in his child seat by the seatbelt as the vehicle sank.
Firefighter divers, dispatched immediately, freed the boy at a depth of seven meters. Firefighters from Jesolo initially attempted the rescue, but the submerged depth required the intervention of the Drago helicopter and its specialist diving team. The divers entered the river, reached the car, cut the seatbelt securing the child seat, and brought the boy ashore. Emergency medical personnel resuscitated him before he was airlifted to Padua Hospital. Recovery of the vehicle is underway using a crane from the Treviso Fire Command.
Carabinieri attended the scene. The parents, Moldovan nationals, were also taken to hospital.
