A 45-year-old Tunisian man was arrested Saturday night for the attempted murder of his 43-year-old wife in Montebeni, a wooded residential area near Fiesole, Florence. The victim’s mother, who lives in the same complex, raised the alarm around 10 PM after discovering the assault in a ground-floor communal room.
Carabinieri found the woman with critical injuries inflicted by a billhook (agricultural blade), which lay at the scene. The attacker—her husband and father of their two young daughters (both under five)—was arrested in flagrante delicto. The children, likely asleep during the attack, were unharmed.
The victim suffered multiple wounds to the chest and head, the latter deemed most life-threatening. Resuscitated at the scene, she was rushed in code-red condition to Florence’s Careggi Hospital, where emergency surgery was performed. She remains hospitalized in reserved prognosis with life-threatening injuries.
Investigators cited marital discord as the motive after interviewing relatives and examining evidence. The unemployed suspect, with no prior domestic violence record, now faces attempted murder charges in Sollicciano Prison per Florence prosecutors’ orders.
