A one-year-old child died at Vasto Hospital after being admitted in cardiac arrest. The mother, a Romanian national, brought the infant to the facility around 7:10 PM. Medical staff immediately performed intubation and resuscitation procedures, but all efforts proved unsuccessful. Preliminary examinations revealed no external signs of injury on the body.
Reports indicate the child had eaten before falling asleep. The mother later observed him vomiting and intervened to assist. Investigations are underway to determine whether she attempted any emergency maneuvers prior to hospitalization. Carabinieri are handling the case and have already interviewed the woman.
Authorities note the child had consumed a biscuit prior to the incident, leaving open the possibility of fatal aspiration pneumonia. At the hospital’s request, the Vasto Prosecutor’s Office has ordered an autopsy. The body has been seized and will be transferred to Chieti Hospital for further examination.
