“Her Life Was in Danger, We Could No Longer Wait”: Mother-in-Law Cites Motive in Son’s Killing

Lorena Venier, the mother-in-law of Mailyn, testified that Mailyn’s life was in danger and they “could no longer wait,” explaining why she and her daughter-in-law decided to kill her son, Alessandro Venier. This key assertion was reiterated during a preliminary hearing before the preliminary investigations judge (GIP) in Udine this morning. Upon leaving the hearing, Venier’s lawyer, Giovanni De Nardo, confirmed the motive, stating it “must be sought in the family dynamics,” noting his client was “very close to her daughter-in-law and granddaughter.” De Nardo added, without providing specifics, that moving to Colombia would have exposed Alessandro’s partner to grave risks to her safety.
