** Italian sports journalist Eleonora Boi, wife of Vaqueros de Bayamón basketball player Danilo Gallinari, was injured in a shark attack off Isla Verde beach in Puerto Rico. The incident, confirmed by the Carolina Municipality police, made headlines locally before being widely reported by Italian media.
The 39-year-old Sardinian journalist, who is pregnant, is now out of danger and in stable condition after being transferred to hospital. Initial assistance was provided by the Carolina Municipal Police, which conducts regular coastal monitoring alongside lifeguards.
Speaking from her hospital bed to Tg5, Boi recounted the terrifying experience: “I like watching horror movies, but not living them.” She described being in shallow water with her young children when she felt intense pain in her right leg. “Being close to shore, I thought it was a jellyfish,” she said. “Unfortunately, when I came out of the water, I was covered in blood. Authorities later confirmed from photos that it was a bite from a small shark.”
Boi also highlighted the unusual nature of the incident locally: “Unfortunately, here in Puerto Rico, the hospital doesn’t have a specific protocol because these episodes are rare.” She underwent emergency surgery to close the wound on her right thigh. “I have many stitches, I’m very frightened, but I think – or at least I hope – I will recover soon,” the Cagliari-born journalist concluded.
