Ukraine formally became the 125th member of the International Criminal Court (ICC) on Thursday during a ceremony at The Hague headquarters. ICC President Judge Tomoko Akane presented Ukrainian Ambassador to the Netherlands Andriy Kostin with a special edition of the Rome Statute, symbolizing Kyiv’s commitment to the rule of law.
“Ascension to the Rome Statute integrates Ukraine into the community of nations dedicated to ending impunity for the most serious crimes of concern to the international community,” stated Akane during the proceedings. The accession marks Ukraine’s full ratification of the treaty establishing the global war crimes tribunal.
