PM Meloni: US-EU Tariff Deal Needs Scrutiny, Further Work

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni stated that the newly signed U.S.-EU tariff agreement requires detailed examination and further negotiation, describing it as a “legally non-binding” preliminary accord. Speaking to reporters in Addis Ababa, Meloni emphasized: “We must study the specifics and continue working because significant elements remain unresolved.” She highlighted outstanding issues including potential exemptions for certain agricultural products, unclear references to investments, and liquefied natural gas (LNG) procurement terms. “I cannot fully assess this until clear data is available,” Meloni added, underscoring the need for concrete details before finalizing the pact.
