Nearly 80,000 Displaced by Sectarian Violence in Southern Syria

Nearly 80,000 people have been displaced following sectarian violence in southern Syria that erupted last week, the United Nations migration agency reported. The International Organization for Migration (IOM) stated that “79,339 people were displaced since July 13, including 20,019 on July 17 alone.” Critical infrastructure in Sweida has “collapsed,” with water, electricity, and telecommunications services failing amid severe fuel shortages that have paralyzed transportation and emergency logistics.
