Italy and France Urged to Uphold Joint Global Leadership Role

President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella has called on Italy and France to “maintain together a leading role on the world stage,” starting with a commitment “to effectively counter current and most urgent threats to peace.” In a message to French President Emmanuel Macron, Mattarella stressed that “stability and security, as well as the prosperity and competitiveness of our continent, depend on this shared commitment.” He further stated that Europe’s integration process “has greatly contributed – and must continue to contribute – to the affirmation of a peaceful, interdependent, multilateral rules-based order.”
