The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have destroyed tens of thousands of humanitarian aid items, including large quantities of food destined for Gaza residents, after the supplies spoiled and expired during a weeks-long wait on the Palestinian side of the Kerem Shalom crossing, Israeli broadcaster Kan reported, citing military sources.
The amount of supplies destroyed is estimated at over one thousand truckloads. “We buried everything and even burned some of it,” one source stated. “Even today, thousands of packages are sitting in the sun. If they are not transferred to Gaza, we will be forced to destroy them.”
News of the destruction comes as the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, driven by severe shortages of food and essential goods, worsens daily. The source cited by Kan attributed the destruction of the aid to “a problem with the distribution mechanism, which simply isn’t working.”
