Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar has sharply criticized Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa’s recent speech, accusing him of supporting jihadist militants while blaming their victims. Sa’ar stated on X that al-Sharaa expressed backing for the attackers, whom the Syrian leader described as “Bedouin tribes symbolizing noble values and principles,” specifically referencing the assaulted Druze minority. The Israeli Foreign Minister further noted that al-Sharaa “laced his remarks with conspiracy theories and accusations against Israel.”
“Ultimately,” Sa’ar concluded, “under al-Sharaa’s Syria, belonging to a minority – whether Kurdish, Druze, Alawite, or Christian – is extremely dangerous. This has been demonstrated repeatedly over the past six months.” Sa’ar’s condemnation came just hours after the United States announced an agreement between Israel and Syria.
