Forestry Carabinieri responded to a report in the Mantua area, discovering and seizing an American Staffordshire Terrier kept in conditions incompatible with its natural needs, along with its enclosure.
The discovery occurred during an inspection in Moglia by Forestry Carabinieri from the Mantua Unit, accompanied by ATS veterinarians. A 33-year-old man was charged with animal mistreatment.
The dog was confined inside a cage measuring just 90x60x60 centimeters (approximately 3x2x2 feet), which was too small for the animal. It was held in a completely dark room without food or water and in unsanitary conditions. Visible wounds were also observed on its muzzle, caused by a cable tie or rope.
The seized dog was placed in the custody of an animal welfare association.
In a separate incident, the same Mantua Forestry Carabinieri Unit charged a 34-year-old woman from Borgo Virgilio in recent days for illegally possessing three turtles without the required CITES documentation. CITES is the international convention regulating trade in endangered species.
These animals were seized as evidence.
