For the first time in Brescia, municipal authorities have formally registered an intended mother’s recognition of her child born to a same-sex couple. The infant girl, who turns one in August, had previously been recognized at birth by her biological mother.
The legal act was formalized this morning in the Broletto’s wedding hall, witnessed by both mothers accompanied by relatives and their attorney Ippolita Sforza.
Brescia Mayor Laura Castelletti and Councilor Anna Frattini highlighted the gesture’s significance, made possible by May’s Constitutional Court ruling. “Every family has the right to be recognized,” Castelletti affirmed. Multiple other couples have now initiated identical procedures.
