The newly issued Integrated Environmental Permit (AIA) for the former Ilva steelworks in Taranto imposes a twelve-year annual production limit of six million tonnes and sets 470 requirements, sources close to the dossier report. All prescriptions indicated by Italy’s Higher Health Institute (ISS) have been fully incorporated into the permit. This AIA is temporary, however, and will be reviewed starting in August under the terms of an inter-institutional program agreement. In certain cases, the permit stipulates applying the emission limits of the current AIA for approximately six months pending further data.
