Alessio Greco, 44, is traveling to Tunisia to personally investigate the disappearance of his sister Valentina, a 42-year-old from Cagliari who has been missing for ten days from her home in Sidi Bou Said. “We’re getting fragmented news, incomplete information, sometimes convoluted due to translations,” Greco told ANSA. “I want to see for myself what’s happening.”
Greco confirmed close coordination with the Italian Embassy, local authorities, and Valentina’s friends but emphasized that only being on the ground would allow him to uncover the truth. “We’re deeply worried she hasn’t made contact – it’s completely unlike her. We remain hopeful for answers. She might be unable to reach us for some reason, possibly even detained,” he stated.
He ruled out no possibilities in the investigation. Greco revealed Valentina had recently rejected unwanted advances from a man who works near her residence. “I can’t say more as inquiries are ongoing, but I need to know much more,” he explained. Addressing potential religious motives, Greco noted his sister admired local culture but showed no interest in converting to Islam: “She’s very attentive to women’s rights; we don’t suspect a mysterious conversion. But we exclude nothing.”
Greco also plans to search local hospitals, suggesting Valentina’s health could be a factor. “She requires anticoagulants due to an embolism. She might have fallen ill, perhaps without ID, and been hospitalized,” he said. (ANSA)
