Mattarella: Environmental Reconciliation Key to Social Cohesion and Democracy

President Sergio Mattarella declared there are “no alibis” for inaction, stating that reconciling with the environment is intrinsically linked to social cohesion and democracy itself. Speaking at a ceremony in Tesero (Trento) marking the 40th anniversary of the Stava disaster, the head of state emphasized that the perspective of sustainable development represents a “hard-won achievement.” He warned that some appear eager to discard this progress, treating it “as a nuisance rather than an investment in the future.”
