Germany has formally rejected the European Union’s proposed €2 trillion budget, submitted by Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, deeming the increase “unacceptable”. A German government spokesperson stated that such a significant rise in the EU budget cannot be justified while all member states are undertaking substantial efforts to consolidate their national finances.
“Therefore, we cannot accept the Commission’s proposal,” added government spokesman Stefan Kornelius in an official statement.
