The inaugural batch of ‘moon honey’ has been produced in Sardinia by the agricultural cooperative Fattoria Molto Sociale, utilizing bees from hives donated by OP Terrantiga of San Sperate. This breakthrough stems from the southern island cooperative’s contribution of two healthy beehives, specialized equipment, and centuries of apicultural expertise. The initiative aims to bolster support for vulnerable individuals under Fattoria Molto Sociale’s care while enhancing local biodiversity.
Spanning environmental conservation, economic empowerment, and social inclusion, the project integrates marginalized participants into beekeeping activities. This foundational step establishes pathways toward sustainable socio-occupational integration, with plans for advanced training to equip youth with professional beekeeping skills.
OP Terrantiga—a pivotal force in founding Italy’s National Honey Cooperative Association—underscores its commitment to social causes. Following honey extraction at Terrantiga’s facilities, the inaugural jars will be presented to Fattoria Molto Sociale’s youth, celebrating the collaborative yield of bees and beekeepers alike.
