Former Prime Minister Matteo Renzi has launched a scathing attack on Italy’s Sports Minister Andrea Abodi via social media platform X. Renzi condemned Abodi’s decision not to attend Wimbledon despite Italian tennis player Jannik Sinner’s historic achievement, calling it “ridiculous” for a sports minister to miss such a nationally significant event. He further accused the government of showing “disinterest” toward tennis accomplishments.
Renzi demanded that Abodi and his associates refrain from interfering with the organization of the ATP Finals in Turin, especially following Sinner’s victory. “If Abodi wants to stay with his family, let him stay all year. And leave things to those who know how to do them, like President [Angelo] Binaghi and his team,” Renzi stated. He warned against the “paradox” of officials skipping major events while trying to undermine tennis experts who have developed the sport. Renzi concluded: “Abodi wants to stay home? We’d be happy to send him there permanently – along with the entire government.”
