Multiple Italian political parties face persistent issues with delinquent parliamentary contributions in their 2024 budgets, spanning Forza Italia, the Democratic Party (PD), and the Five Star Movement (M5s).
In contrast, Italian Left reports increased contributions from its MPs, rising from €204,000 to €281,000 annually, with individual payments ranging between €42,000 and €55,000.
Despite a €2 million surplus, M5s lists €2.8 million in receivables from MPs and regional councillors on its books, plus €1.4 million allocated for end-of-term indemnities.
The PD shows a €55,000 reduction in credits owed by senators and deputies compared to 2023, now standing at €441,000. Its financial report (showing a €650,000 surplus) explains that “recovery actions continued” against elected members from various legislatures, involving 9 ongoing legal proceedings and 4 settlement agreements.
While Forza Italia (FI) saw increases of €2 million in third-party contributions and over €300,000 in membership fees, its report (detailing a €307,000 deficit) highlights the “discontinuity of payments due from some elected members” as a critical issue. The report states: “More rigorous decisions will be needed to secure payments,” potentially leveraging internal party rules that impose ineligibility and removal from party positions for delinquent members.
