The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) stated that today’s deadly attack near a water distribution site in central Gaza, which killed six children, resulted from a “technical malfunction” during a strike targeting a Palestinian Islamic Jihad terrorist operative. The Times of Israel reported the IDF statement.
“This morning, an attack was carried out against an Islamic Jihad operative in the central Gaza Strip. Due to a technical malfunction of the projectile, it hit dozens of meters away from the designated target,” the IDF said, adding that “the incident is under investigation.”
“We are aware of reports of casualties in the area and the details of the incident are still being reviewed,” the military stated.
The IDF affirmed it operates against terrorist groups in Gaza “and makes every effort to minimize harm to uninvolved civilians.”
“The IDF regrets any harm caused to non-combatants,” the statement concluded.
