A southern Italian student, evicted from her rented apartment in Venice, was captured on video being subjected to racial slurs by her landlady, including the term “Terrona maleducata” (uncouth southern Italian). The footage, shared widely on social media and highlighted in a public complaint by the Udu (Union of University Students), shows the heated argument on the building’s stairs. As reported by Corriere del Veneto, the landlady is heard shouting derogatory insults such as “Southern Italian piece of s***, uncouth, haughty, arrogant,” and questioning “where do you think you’ll get in life?”.
The student, seen recording the incident, states she was evicted overnight “before the natural expiration of the contract.” She recounts traveling solo for five years across 12 different countries, claiming she had never experienced such disrespect before. “I study and work, supporting myself entirely,” the student says in the video, addressing the landlady directly, “This is what Venetians are like.”
