Andrea Cavallari, the 26-year-old convicted for the Lanterna Azzurra massacre in Corinaldo, has been extradited to Italy following his capture in Barcelona after two weeks on the run. Cavallari had escaped from Bologna’s Dozza prison on July 3rd by exploiting a temporary release granted for his university graduation ceremony.
A commercial flight returning Cavallari from Barcelona landed at Rome’s Fiumicino Airport at 13:40 local time. Upon disembarking under heavy guard from the Central Investigative Unit (NIC) of the Penitentiary Police and the Special Custodial Units (SCIP), he was immediately escorted to judicial police offices within the airport terminal.
Authorities are now processing Cavallari under the European Arrest Warrant. Once formalities are complete, he will be transferred to Civitavecchia prison for temporary detention.
