“I was pushing my cleaning cart down the restroom hallway when I found myself blocked by a wall of people shouting and shoving. There was this man in the middle and beside him, a silent child who looked shocked,” recounted a cleaner at the Villoresi Ovest highway rest stop, describing the assault on a Jewish family.
“I really didn’t understand how it all started, people were pushing,” the cleaner added. “I didn’t see anyone throw punches, I just heard screams and shouts, someone saying to call the police. Then they all surged forward, and shortly after, the police were already there.”
DIGOS officers in Milan have secured CCTV footage from the rest stop in Lainate (Milan) where a father and his six-year-old son, French nationals of Jewish faith, were subjected to insults by individuals present. Officers are also collecting witness statements to compile a report for Milan prosecutor Marcello Viola, who is leading the investigation.
The father reported being physically assaulted by some of the individuals. After filing the complaint, he did not seek hospital treatment for assessment of his injuries.
