The “Holidays with Bows” national road safety campaign launched its 26th edition at the San Lazzaro toll booth on the A14 motorway near Bologna, coinciding with the first day of the summer holiday exodus. Bologna municipal police and operators from the Centro Antartide distributed informational materials to departing travellers.
Promoting the slogan “Slow down, you’re on holiday!”, the campaign links adherence to speed limits with the need to reduce life’s pace, particularly during vacations. Bologna City Councillor Claudio Mazzanti and Marco Pollastri, President of the Emilia-Romagna Region’s Observatory for Road Safety Education, attended the event.
This Italy-wide initiative is promoted by Centro Antartide with patronage from the Senate, Chamber of Deputies, Ministry of Infrastructure, Emilia-Romagna Region, and ANCI (National Association of Italian Municipalities). It boasts one hundred supporters among administrations, motorway companies, health agencies, and associations, with ambassadors Tessa Gelisio, Patrizio Roversi, and Luca Mercalli.
Speeding remains a leading cause of road accidents, responsible for over 8% of crashes involving fatalities or injuries. The campaign emphasizes that reduced travel speeds lessen crash severity and save lives, especially for pedestrians.
Campaign materials—featuring Snoopy imagery on posters, stickers, and leaflets—will be distributed at motorway toll booths, service areas, and municipalities nationwide. Radio and television stations participating in the initiative are already airing promotional spots featuring the ambassadors.
