** A patient with confirmed West Nile virus infection is in intensive care and currently requires assisted ventilation, the Latina Local Health Authority (ASL) announced. Four other patients hospitalized last week are showing “significant improvement and are in fair general condition,” the agency added.
An 86-year-old patient with “significant pre-existing conditions” remains in serious, though stable, condition.
The ASL stated that “all necessary measures were immediately activated in response to recent West Nile Virus infections recorded in the province.” This includes forming a multidisciplinary corporate task force, coordinated by the General Directorate and involving all specialists relevant to virus management, prevention, and surveillance. The primary goal, the ASL emphasized, is establishing shared operational protocols to ensure coordinated and continuous action across the territory.

As part of activities coordinated by the Lazio Region with support from the Spallanzani National Institute for Infectious Diseases (INMI), a training session will be held today for all healthcare professionals in the province. This includes hospital and community healthcare workers from ASL Latina, emergency department staff, general practitioners, and local pediatricians. The session aims to strengthen the clinical surveillance network and provide updates on case management procedures.
