Iran Accuses European Powers of Backing Israeli Aggression, Violating Nuclear Deal

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has formally accused Britain, France, and Germany of endorsing “Israel’s aggression against Iran,” abandoning core principles of the nuclear agreement, and failing to honor their commitments under the pact. The allegations were made in a letter sent to the United Nations and EU High Representative Kaja Kallas.

Araghchi stated the three European nations “lack the legal, political, and moral authority to invoke the snapback mechanism,” referring to the process that would automatically reinstate UN sanctions against Iran. He charged that they “have aligned themselves with Washington’s so-called ‘maximum pressure’ campaign against Iran.”

The letter, cited by Iran’s Tasnim news agency, declared any attempt to revive expired UN Security Council resolutions via the snapback mechanism “null and void.” This follows warnings from the UK, France, and Germany that they would trigger snapback by the end of August unless nuclear talks between Iran and the US – suspended before the Israel-Iran conflict – resumed and yielded concrete results.

Separately, an Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson confirmed that nuclear negotiations between Tehran and the European trio are scheduled for July 25th in Istanbul.
