Imperia-born cyclist Samuele Privitera, aged 19, died on Tuesday evening at Parini Hospital in Aosta following a severe crash during the first stage of the 61st Giro Ciclistico della Valle d’Aosta–Mont Blanc under-23 race. The incident occurred on a descent near Pontey, where Privitera was reportedly thrown from his bicycle after hitting a bump. His protective helmet came off during the fall, causing him to strike his head violently against a gate and sustain critical cranial trauma. The young rider’s parents arrived in Aosta following the accident. Organizers canceled Wednesday’s stage pending further decisions.
