Yoox Workers to Continue Strikes Against Mass Layoffs

Employees at online fashion retailer Yoox have voted to continue their protest against the company’s recent announcement of 211 layoffs. Following morning meetings held at the company’s Interporto headquarters—with further assemblies scheduled for Monday in Zola Predosa—workers and their unions unanimously voted to proceed with an additional eight hours of strike action. This follows an initial mobilization and picket in recent days and is part of a national action planned from September 15th.

In a joint statement, the unions Filcams-Cgil, Fisacat-Cisl, and Uiltucs-Uil detailed that the strike days will be organized by individual sectors on a rotating basis. The action will involve all employees at the headquarters, including both those affected by the dismissal procedure and those retaining their positions. By the end of the month, all workers will have completed a second day of strike.

The unions have also established a permanent static picket at the company headquarters, which will be in place from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Friday, for the duration of the labor dispute. “Given the enormous support from workers for our proposal of a permanent picket, starting Monday morning we will always be by their side, both at the negotiation tables and physically at the company headquarters,” the unions declared.

The labor organizations stated that a minor opening from the company regarding crisis management tools during a September 10th meeting “is certainly not enough to stop the fight and our demands.” They maintain it is “not acceptable to dismiss 211 people without evaluating alternative instruments for managing the crisis.”

Unions say they will only consider suspending the protest “if the company totally revises its position.” According to the representatives from Cgil, Cisl, and Uil, the guiding principle remains that “the crisis cannot be paid for by the workers but must be managed by guaranteeing them a future.”
