Yoox Net-a-porter, the online retail giant, informed unions yesterday of its decision to begin redundancy procedures, declaring 211 of its 1,091 employees in Italy surplus to requirements. The workers at risk are primarily concentrated in the cities of Bologna (160) and Milan.
The announcement was described as a “cold shower” by Mariano Vendola of the Filcams Cgil union in comments to ANSA. “Letting people go from one day to the next is not acceptable,” stated Vendola, adding that the company had not even attempted to pursue alternative social safety net measures first.
