Initial estimates indicate extensive damage from severe storms battering Italy’s Veneto region since dawn today, particularly impacting the Vicenza area. The hardest-hit municipality appears to be Montebello Vicentino, where at least two landslides sent mud and rocks cascading onto two municipal roads, forcing closures. Within the same town, floodwaters inundated a nursing home; firefighters intervened swiftly to prevent a major disaster.
Residents faced frightening moments in the Colli Berici hills, especially Brendola, struck by a violent hailstorm accompanied by powerful wind gusts. Damaging hail also battered crops in neighboring townships, including Arcugnano, Longare, and Montegalda. Multiple alerts are active in the Chiampo valley.
Meanwhile, in the Agno valley, high winds toppled numerous trees and branches onto roadways. One fallen tree blocked Provincial Road 246 near the hamlet of San Quirico di Valdagno. Emergency services reported receiving a high volume of calls to their switchboards.
