Unauthorized Beach Facility Shut Down in Manduria Coastal Raid

Italian authorities have dismantled an illegal beach establishment in San Pietro in Bevagna, Manduria (Taranto), following a joint operation by national police, Coast Guard, and local law enforcement. During intensified coastal patrols along Salento’s shoreline, officers identified and charged the owner of a prominent local restaurant.

Police from Manduria’s station discovered approximately 120 square meters of public beach unlawfully occupied by umbrellas and sunbeds opposite the restaurant. The setup functioned as a fully equipped, unlicensed bathing facility.

Investigations confirmed the 20 umbrellas and 12 sunbeds belonged to the restaurateur, who held no permits. He faces charges for illegal occupation of state-owned land and violation of private property boundaries.

The Coast Guard further documented critical safety failures: absence of lifeguards, missing swimming zone demarcation buoys, and lack of emergency equipment at the rescue tower. Administrative fines totaling €3,000 were issued, and all equipment was seized.
