A 95-year-old woman and her 69-year-old daughter died in a fire that broke out in their home in the Masiera hamlet, between Fusignano and Bagnacavallo in the province of Ravenna, around 11:00 PM last night. Neighbors were the first to respond, attempting to extinguish the flames before firefighters arrived on the scene. The elderly woman was bedridden, and investigators believe her daughter attempted, in vain, to save her.
The victims have been identified as Giuseppina Fiumi, 95, and her daughter, Maria Teresa Santoni, 69. Carabinieri and the on-duty Public Prosecutor, Lucrezia Ciriello, were also present at the location. The primary hypothesis currently under investigation by authorities is that the tragedy was the result of a domestic accident.
