Carabinieri police in Nuoro have identified and apprehended two suspects in the January 2023 murder of Mario Graziano Loddo, a 55-year-old cork industry businessman. Loddo was shot dead with multiple rifle rounds in the countryside near Ortueri in the Nuoro province.
Officers executed two pre-trial detention orders yesterday morning, arresting a 48-year-old man and a 51-year-old man, both originally from Orotelli. The suspects face charges of voluntary homicide (committed in concert), illegal possession and carrying of firearms, and receiving stolen goods. The operation, involving Carabinieri from Nuoro and Oristano alongside the Sardinia Helicopter-Borne Hunters Squadron, took place across Orotelli (Nuoro) and Anela (Sassari).
The two-year investigation, coordinated by the Oristano Prosecutor’s Office, progressively built a substantial body of evidence against the pair, leading to the issuance of the detention orders. Investigators and prosecutors believe the killing arose from intense conflicts within the local cork business community.
The crime scene was initially discovered on January 8, 2023, when two passers-by alerted authorities to a lifeless body on the roadside in the Ghenna e Juncu area.
