A timely intervention by Rome’s Local Police saved a 61-year-old Italian man who had attempted suicide by jumping into the Tiber River. The incident occurred at approximately 9:30 AM this morning. A patrol unit from the Rome Capital Local Police, First Prati Group, which was on traffic duty in Piazza delle Rovere, responded promptly to the emergency.
Officers were alerted by shouts from passersby and rushed to the Lungotevere Gianicolense, where they located the man in the water. The personnel immediately took action. They were assisted by colleagues from the First Central Group, who were nearby, as well as some citizens present at the scene. Together, they managed to pull the 61-year-old from the river using a rope.
After bringing him to safety, the officers engaged the man in a reassuring dialogue, also attempting to understand the reasons behind his extreme act, which appear to be linked to economic difficulties. Once calmed, the man was entrusted to medical care at the Santo Spirito Hospital.
