A three-year-old Moldovan boy is no longer in life-threatening condition after being found at the bottom of a swimming pool in Omegna, on Lake Orta. The child has been hospitalized at the Regina Margherita children’s hospital in Turin since yesterday. His exact medical condition and any potential injuries sustained in the incident are expected to be clarified in the coming hours. Upon arrival at the hospital, the boy was breathing with the aid of medical equipment.
According to a reconstruction by the Carabinieri, who used an interpreter to communicate with the family, the Moldovan family was on vacation in Omegna visiting relatives who were staying at the same bed and breakfast. The incident occurred while the parents were dining and the children had wandered off to play. When the other children returned, the boy was missing, prompting an immediate search of the B&B and its surroundings. The father subsequently spotted his son at the bottom of the pool, dove in, and pulled him out. The child was resuscitated, though the exact duration he was submerged or in cardiac arrest remains unclear. No investigation has been opened at this time.
