Carabinieri from the Piazza Venezia command, while conducting an anti-pickpocketing operation in the historic center, have arrested three Peruvian nationals—two men and a woman—on serious suspicion of receiving stolen goods and the unauthorized use of payment instruments.
The officers observed the trio hastily exiting a store on Via Nazionale and throwing a credit card and a health insurance card to the ground. The documents were registered to a Roman citizen who had just been robbed while inside a restaurant at the Galleria Alberto Sordi.
After stopping the individuals, the Carabinieri were informed by the store’s cashier that the three had attempted to make transactions with the discarded card. Subsequent investigations led to the recovery of a purse containing a smartphone, cash, and personal documents, all belonging to the victim. The entire stolen property was returned to its owner.
With strong evidence of guilt gathered against them, the Carabinieri arrested the three in the act and took them to the halls of the Rome Tribunal for a direct fast-track trial, where their arrest was formally validated.
