Thirty people were poisoned after having lunch at a restaurant within a tourist village in Nicotera Marina, in the Vibonese area. Five of the intoxicated individuals, who were in more serious condition than the others, required hospitalization.
The Carabinieri from the NAS (Anti-Adulteration Unit) have launched an investigation into the case. They inspected the restaurant’s kitchens, collected food samples, and ordered the destruction of all stored food to prevent further risks.
The Mayor of Nicotera, Giuseppe Marasco, posted a note on his Facebook profile extending his “best wishes for a speedy recovery to all the people involved.” He stated, “It is important to clarify that this episode does not in any way concern the restaurants with free access in our area. Our establishments are subject to rigorous controls and are known for their commitment to food safety and the quality of the products offered. I therefore invite everyone to continue frequenting our community’s restaurants, which are a pillar of our culture and culinary tradition.”
