Tonight’s third trial race for the Palio di Siena, scheduled for 7:15 PM, was cancelled due to heavy rain. A thunderstorm hitting the city shortly after 4:00 PM rendered the tufa track within the Piazza del Campo ring impassable.
The postponement of the race dedicated to the Madonna Assunta was officially confirmed by the display of the green flag from the trifora windows of the Palazzo Pubblico by Siena’s municipal authorities.
The downpour ended a spell of exceptional heat that had also affected the Siena area in recent days.
